Impressions from an unknown country.

Not too many Germans can say that they have worked as a political advisor in North Korea, probably the most closed country in the world. Manfred Richter, former Lord Mayor, was able to gain this experience by conducting a workshop with North Korean experts in the capital Pyongyang and the port city of Wonsan and discussing the problems of urban development and the economic restructuring of a major city.

Entrepreneur X had set himself ambitious goals: he wanted to increase satisfaction within the company, promote teamwork and drive forward successful projects. Despite all his efforts, however, he felt increasingly isolated from his employees. The reason for his failure was not a lack of team-building measures or time management strategies, but rather the hidden levels of his employees’ subconscious. Studies show that 95% of decisions are made unconsciously, based on inner impulses and beliefs. The lecture offers the opportunity to do just that. Responsibility or wearing fashion? – The ecological footprint of our closet.

Worldwide, the fashion and textile industry is the second largest polluter. Surpassed only by the heavy oil industry, it is responsible for more than 10% of global CO2 emissions and generates over 42 million tons of plastic waste every year. A major lever in the fight against climate change can be found in our closets at home: our fashion.
The lecture “Fashion and sustainability” addresses the ecological and social facets of textile production and supply chains, shows alternative approaches and explains the influence of digital technologies, including the digital SANOGE fashion configurator, in order to align economic structures in the textile and fashion industry in a more forward-looking way.

Sarah Maria Nordt (Rotary Club Augsburg) is the founder and managing director of the FashionTech start-up SANOGE. She studied Business Administration (B.A.) and Corporate Management (M.A.) at the University of St. Gallen (HSG), gained experience in management consulting in the field of digital strategies and, parallel to her own entrepreneurial activities, completed her doctorate in Entrepreneurial Finance at the University of St. Gallen, where she still works today as a Research Associate.

With conservative estimates of over 180,000 hotels worldwide, it is clear that a hotel is more than just a room. A hotel is a place of professional hospitality where people from all over the world come together. Internal and external hotel communication therefore plays a key role in hotel management. But how do you communicate successfully as a host and what tips and lessons can we take away from the hotel industry for our everyday lives? Januš C. Varburgh and Daniel Green deal with these and other questions about hotel communication in this lecture. Varburgh and Daniel Green in this presentation.

Januš C. Varburgh has spent the majority of his career to date in the rooms sector and acts as Duty Manager and Guest Relations Manager in Vienna. Since 2023, he has been in charge of conference and event management at the Austrian Society for Legal Linguistics.

A Short History of the Jerusalem Rotary Club.

Founded in 1929, the Rotary Club of Jerusalem has been serving its fellow man for 95 years.

Despite numerous challenges, the club has remained true to its commitment of selfless service.

Throughout its eventful history, the club has implemented a variety of projects aimed at addressing various social, educational and health-related needs in the community.

From providing scholarships to supporting medical initiatives, the club has had a multifaceted positive impact on the lives of people of all walks of life and has successfully contributed to international understanding. This lecture tells its story.

Unknown global environmental challenges and how a special toilet can help solve them

Our world is facing major challenges. Some of them are presented to us on a daily basis. Jan Ilzig and Florian Wackermann take you to lesser-known construction sites on our planet: they start with the planetary boundaries and some of today’s challenges. They will then look at how we can make better use of resources in our everyday lives using a specific example. Together with your club members, they will discuss possible solutions and take you on an entertaining insight into lesser-known environmental issues and surprising toilet solutions.

Jan Ilzig (member of RC München-Alpenblick, honorary member of RAC Karlsruhe, past member of RAC München-Bavaria & RAC Schweinfurt) studied mechanical engineering at KIT and then worked for several years in various positions in medium-sized companies. Today he is building up a company together with Florian Wackermann. He has been a Rotaract member since 2006 and has been actively involved in three clubs. He was president, district speaker and chairman of the Rotaract Germany Committee. He was one of the first to represent Rotaract at the General Assembly in San Diego in 2019 and has also been active at conventions for several years. In 2021, he founded RC München-Alpenblick together with a few other friends.

Florian Wackermann (member of RC Germering, honorary member of RAC Germering) studied business administration and economics in France, Germany and the USA. Following his doctorate, he worked in various management positions in medium-sized companies. Today he is building up a company together with Jan Ilzig. As a sideline, he gives lectures and workshops worldwide on leadership development topics and integration into voluntary work. He was a Rotary exchange student, Interacter and Rotex member. He became a Rotaract member in 2005 and a Rotary member in 2016. In addition to club and district offices, he was also active in Rotary International Committees. He was also responsible for the promotion of the RI Convention in Hamburg 2019.
