Jazz under the swastika | PLZ74
Degenerate music under National Socialism
“If you swing, you don’t march!” Coco Schumann (1924-2018) once said. Jazz was considered degenerate music under National Socialism and was banned. Based on the fates of Coco Schumann, Emil Mangelsdorff, Rolf Kühn and others, all of whom the speaker was able to meet personally, the fates of jazz musicians during Hitler’s time are traced. The project culminated in the production of the album “Tribute To Coco Schumann” by the Rotary Jazz Fellowship in 2024.
