Poetry slam – what is it? A poet explains | PLZ26

Poetry slam – an insight into the many facets of stage literature from its beginnings to the present day

Poetry slam – what exactly is it? Annika Blanke, herself a successful “slammer”
and presenter on the scene for more than fifteen years (including multiple participation in the German-language championships, Bremen City Champion 2012)
gives an insight into this multifaceted world of modern poetry competition: from the beginnings in the 1980s in the USA to the
current situation in Germany, from the tricks of the trade to the “Engelmann effect” and an outlook on the future
, this lecture promises to be anything but a boring water glass reading.
Individual adaptation of the lecture length and focus possible:
– Basic insights into the topic “Poetry Slam – what is it actually?” (duration approx. 20 minutes)
– Basics plus focus on “Poetry Slam at school / empowerment of pupils through creative writing” (duration 30 to 45 minutes)
– Basics plus illustration of the literature format through own text presentations (duration 30 to 60 minutes)

Annika Blanke (E-Club of D-1850), born 1984 in Leer (East Frisia). German and English teacher, poetry slammer, presenter and cabaret artist. She has been performing on stages from Norderney to New York City for over fifteen years, reading out her self-written texts – true to the motto “Entertainment meets depth!” And this combination pays off: Blanke is a multiple participant in the German-language poetry slam championships, winner of the “Wacken Slam Battle 2019” (and member of the Rotarian Metalhead Fellowship) and was selected by the German Embassy in Vienna to represent the Federal Republic of Germany at the 2019 Country Poetry Slam.
